Demo's programme in Tanzania

Demo’s programme in Tanzania targets gender equality and strengthening of women's political participation. The support is directed to the work of Tanzania – Women’s Cross-Party Platform (T–WCP) which comprises of the women’s wings of parliamentary parties alongside with Parliament’s women’s network. The Platform organizes joint campaigns and training activities to raise the voice of women in politics. The programme has also been piloted at the local level in Kyela, Temeke and Zanzibar, opening doors for grassroots women to participate in politics.

Women representatives strenghten the voice of grassroots in decision making at Kyela district, Tanzania

In the parliamentary election held in October 2010, Tanzanians chose their parliament but also their representatives to district governments. The role of district governance is strong in the country, thus a fair representation of women in these decision making organs is vital in order to get the voice of the grassroot level heard.
