Political youth organisations delivered a joint statement to their mother parties, March 30, 2007

Demo in collaboration with UNDP and Finnish Youth Co-Operation – Allianssi has educated representatives of Finnish political youth organisations on issues related to development co-operation. The young participated in three one-day-long seminars during the autumn 2006 in which the topics varied from Millennium Goals of the United Nations to democratic governance and to trade and development. The training culminated in a trip to Tanzania in January 2007 which was attended by delegates from seven different political youth organisations.

After the trip the political youth organisations in question wrote a joint statement to their mother parties. The statement was delivered to the representatives of the mother parties in the Visitors’ Centre of Parliament on March 30, 2007 and the function was also attended by media.

The main requirements of the seven political youth organisations who have signed the statement are as follows:

  1. Finland shall gain the agreed level of allowance for the development co-operation
  2. Finland shall contribute to international trade negotiations in aiming to improve the circumstances of developing countries

  3. Finland shall advance employment, entrepreneurship, and labour justice in developing countries

  4. Finland shall contribute to ease the debt burden of developing countries

  5. Finland shall promote consistent trade and development policy and contribute to a better co-ordination of international aid

  6. Finland shall foster democracy, good governance, and human rights all over the world

  7. Finland shall contribute to prerequisites in developing countries to organise free basic education

  8. Finland shall promote in a determinate manner a global and fair climate treaty under the umbrella of the United Nations

The statement is signed by Finnish Centre Youth, Social Democratic Youth in Finland, Left Youth of Finland, The Youth Organisation of the Swedish People's Party, Christian Democratic Youth, Youth League of the National Coalition Party in Finland, Federation of Green Youth and Students.
